Session 3 - A City Needs People

Day 1 Do you know the name of a poor person? Day 2 List the top three things that most distract you from the things God has put in your heart. 1. Commitment of time to family and job (?) 2.  laziness 3.  doubt Personal response: "...where can you improve based on what we've learned today?" 1 Peter 5:2-3 "Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, ser"ving as overseers...not greedy for money, but eager to serve ...."   got me there....eagerness has not been in my top ten lately. Loved the verse: I Peter 5:4  "And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away." Day 3 "Determining what we should say yes to and what we need to say no to is often one of the hardest things to discern, especially since inexhaustible needs and opportunities surround us-needs that frequently fall into noble and worthwhile categories." Is the Lord asking you to say no to something so th...

Session 2-guest post by Tara W.

Day 1: "He would have lost this [initiative]  if he had been exposing half-formed ideas piecemeal to every acquaintance." Ben and I have found this to be true because then your ideas turn more into talk than passionate action.  "Sometimes God drops a dream in our hearts that we must pray over and develop, that we must cultivate by his word and direction before we share it with others."// "I can be a glutton for immediate feedback and other people's reactions." Often times I throw out an idea because I want to hear what other people think of it. If they think it's dumb or don't have much of a reaction to it, I'll often dismiss the idea. But there are a few ideas that I know that God has put into my heart, and although they might seem impractical or impossible, I know God wants me to keep praying about it, looking for the way in which I should be obeying him in the process of making that idea a reality.  "Our task is not to rebu...

Session 1- What makes you weep?

I love the history lesson of day 1.   I love that the book of Nehemiah is going to come alive to me, that it will now be more than just a name of one of the books of the Bible.  I love knowing that I can now find it quickly nestled between the two "E" books, Ezra and Esther! Day 01 Nehemiah 1:4 "When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.  For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven." I love this verse, I love to know that I'm not the only one that weeps!  :) Kelly's questions... What breaks your heart?  Divorce, broken families, poverty Where could you be more tender?  the unsaved-God please help me in this area! "Sometimes the most accomplished people aren't the ones with the most ability but with the most breakable hearts."  Do you believe this? Day 02 "Too often we treat prayer as the preparation for the work of the church.  Do you not see?  Prayer is the work of the church."   O...
